About Celerity Global Development
Celerity Global Development has built its services to assist underserved communities throughout the U.S. and in turn, is empowering them to help make a difference in the lives of children in poverty stricken countries half a world away. CGD has partnered with other well established social conscience organizations, including the Dream Project, Free the Children, and Playing for Change to help raise funds in order to focus on the most crucial areas needed: education, alternative income, health care, and water and sanitation.
In 2012, Celerity Global adopted the village of Kipsongol in rural Kenya. With CGD’s support, the villagers of Kipsongol are making huge strides in improving their standard of living. Raised monies have been going towards building a new school, providing mobile medical service, building clean water wells, and sponsoring programs which train villagers in income-generating activities such as sewing and bee-keeping. In order to combat the village’s astonishing illiteracy rate of around 60%, the building of the new school was a huge priority. Continuous progress is still going strong as over 60 students are now enjoying the recently built classroom.
Starting in 2014, CGD provides financial support to 9 music schools in Tamale, Ghana, Kathmandu, Nepal, Udayapur, Nepal, Kirina, Mali, Bangkok, Thailand, Patan, Lalitpur District, Nepal, Kigali, Rwanda, Gugulethu, South Africa, and Tintale Village, Nepal.
Starting in 2015, we will add the village of Jachie in Ghana to those we support. The village’s lack of access to education and health care makes them an ideal candidate for our efforts. Treatable illnesses and conditions like diarrhea, respiratory infections, and obstetric and neonatal emergencies and malaria affects thousands; Malaria alone accounts for about 21,000 deaths each year. In addition to building the only hospital in the area, more classrooms, and shipping in educational supplies, microcredit programs will be set up to provide loans to women who are head of households. With this help, these women will be able to start small businesses of their own, provide for their families, and send their children to high school. The ultimate goal is to eventually see these villagers become self-sustaining and thrive.
By breaking down the barriers in our own underserved communities, CGD believes, we in turn become advocates for change around
How do we combat the overwhelming problems facing educational institutions today? We can accomplish this by knocking down one barrier at a time. Celerity Global Development (CGD) was established in 2012 to provide wide-ranging support services tailored to meet new start-ups and struggling schools’ individual needs. We bring our expertise in operations and academic know-how to give each school the freedom to concentrate on what is most important …providing the best education for our children. CGD’s support helps schools overcome hurdles that have caused many to have to close their doors. With a proven track record of supporting seven now high achieving K-8 grade charter schools, CGD has moved its expertise to help aid schools in Florida, Louisiana and Ohio (www.celerityschools.org).
